Itinerary description
We spent Christmas 2014 at the Refugio de Juanar. In a family group we left early on Christmas morning to do a hike. Our intention was to do the Route of Juan Lima. First we ascended from the Refugio to the Crossroads, which is a fairly challenging ascent for 1.6 km on a wide path but apart from the steepness it presents no other difficulties. Once at the Crossroads, part of our group was not happy to go the planned route, which was not very obvious, so we decided to repeat a route we had done one day at the end of October 2013. The Route of the Viborilla Pass. The greater part is on nice and easy pathways, but there are two areas of difficulty. The first is from the Crossroads down to the valley. And the second is the climb to the Viborilla Pass and the subsequent descent. Both are challenges, particularly for the not so young. It is also necessary to take care in the plain as the vegetation is very overgrown, making it difficult to find the paths. In my notes on the 2013 hike I highlighted the beauty of the woods in Autumn. Regrettably on this occasion we found that many of the trees in front of the Refugio had been cut down, and the locals told us that this was because some species had been diseased. It is a difficult route in parts, but very beautiful.
