Itinerary description
Pointe de la Vallaisonnay (3020m) and Rocher Noire (2931m).
From the car park, cross the Torrent de Champagny in the direction of Laisonnay d'en Haut (refuge), then past the Refuge de la Glière and its Chapel. I headed up the path that leads to the Col de la Grassaz then turned off to go directly up the slope following a faint side-path. From here the ascent up to the ridge of Pointe de la Vallaisonnay is marked by rock cairns and is steeply up relatively unstable rock but I wouldn’t consider it technical. The summit is reached after traversing the ridge, beautiful views. Down to the Roche Noire pass, then continue straight up the easily accessible Roche Noire summit.
Descent is back towards the Roche Noire pass and then down north-west following gully’s with intermittent rock cairns (avoiding cliff bands) and ending up at the path leading to Plan Séry. This path takes you down past the refuge of Plaisance and return to the starting point via the Py waterfall. Previously saw Ibex in the area above Plaisance but none visible today. Beautiful, enjoyable loop.
Marked moderate due to significant portion off-trail and comfort needed route finding in this alpine environment.
