Itinerary description
A long half-loop from Goriz refugi to the Spain-France border ridge.
The trail starts on the black-mountains area arounf Goriz and reaches first the port in the wall - the magnificent Breche de Roland. Before reaching it there is a walking section on a flat but very narrow trail above abyss with a few chains for protection (nothing too difficult). From the Breche the views inside France are wonderful - it is mostly green a contrast to the black rocl on the spanish side. Taillon is not at all an impressive mountain but the views from its peak are great. To reach it continue along the border-ridge on the spanish side untill you get to a zigzag steep trail leading up. From the top you can see the mountain ragnes inside France, Gavarnie (the village) and the magnificent waterfall on the top of cirque de Gavarnie.
On the way down I chose the trail on the other side of Taillon to avoid the walk along the border-ridge again.
18km, +/-1100m, 10hrs
