Itinerary description
A nice variation to a well-known day trip from Baños, to Pailon del Diablo and Machay. We included El Sendero de Cascadas, which made it a tad more attractive and wild.
Rent a bike in Baños, ride around 17 kilometers to the Comunitario entrance of Machay. To find this, continue riding about 2 minutes from the main tourist entrance. You'll find the Comunitario entrance, which is free. We did not enter Machay yet though. On the opposite side of the E30, we took the little street with all the houses and got to the river (through a hole in a fence). You can walk up the river as far as you'd like, going through water and over big boulders. There will be no one there, which is a nice change :) we did around 2 kilometers before heading back for Machay, entering at the Comunitario and leaving at the main tourist entrance. Then the wonderful Pailon del Diablo, which my Wikiloc didn't record!
On the way back, you can put your bike in a camioneta, which will take you back to Baños for $2.
Very nice day trip! Be ready for good views and possible hordes of tourists.
