Itinerary description
We started the trip by visiting the 5 caves of Shawayah. The first cave was just a large hole in the ground. The second cave however was a proper cave with various sub-caves (it is also known as the hotel cave). The third cave's entrance was covered by sand. The fourth cave's entrance is a small hole - it seemed like cave was deep. The fifth cave was very nice and deep, we saw birds and an arabian desert fox there. A few km later we saw a beautiful hoopoe bird.
We then crossed the desert from Shawayah to Tanhat area. The track is generally moderate but there were some areas that I consider very difficult where the track was covered by the sand and you had to find a way around. In between the dunes we came across some beautiful green areas.
NOTE: If you are planning to cross the desert from the Shawyah to Tanhat then I suggest that you start with cave 5 and do it in the the reverse order.
