Itinerary description
Exploring various - legal - forest tracks in summer with beautiful views of the surrounding mountains, meadows, streams and butterflies. Roads are mainly loose rocks with steep ascents and descents, so caution and patience is required, as is low gear, although locked differentials were not needed. The roads were wide enough for my Land Cruiser 120 and the ruts were not too deep, so decent ground clearance is enough for most parts.
N.B. various signs warned of danger, e.g. falling rocks, and I could imagine wet conditions making the track 'difficult' rather than 'moderate'. Also: probably impossible when it snows, as locals have told me the municipality will not clear the snow on these forest tracks.
Also, the track can be expanded upon, for example in the almost abandoned town of Monthion, where another track leads up and possibly across the mountain. In a few places I turned around because the road got too steep/rocky for my taste, but perhaps a better equipped or more experienced driver could continue. Have fun and let me know how you experienced the track!
