Itinerary description
Lake Tekapo to Macaulay’s Hut,
First 30kms up lake Tekapo is just a gravel road there is a lake shore 4x4 track that goes half way up the lake didn’t try this but there’s posted signs.
Drop your tyres at the first river crossing, gets real bumpy after that all the way up to the hut. First river was quiet deep, end of September, saw a Pajero stuck in the deep. chose to drive further up the river and cross in a shallower part. Last 5km to the hut the track goes all over the place bit hard to follow. Just got to find the right line for your vehicle. Would be a difficult trail in parts without diff lockers and high clearance, my skid plates got a good couple of wacks.
