Itinerary description
A wonderful tour in Mongolia, leading round the Turgen-Kharkhiraa massif to the remote mountain lake of Uureg.
From Omnogov, by rounding a little hill, one joins the good track pointing north to Ulaangom, a town which looks very Sovietic in style. Short after the town, one leaves the road pointing to the Russian border, following a track heading up the interesting Ulaan Davaa. From here, it is plain descent through hilly terrain to the Uureg lake.One finds gers and pleny of grazing cattle on the southern shore of the lake. Some kms uphill, do not miss an interesting kurgan site. The track heads now up toward the highset point of the itinerary, which is the Dairam Dava.. On the way down one meets a nice mining village inhabited mainly by Kazakh people. The last interesting stretch before reaching Olgii is the one along the Khovd river.
