Itinerary description
On the way out, in a rush to see the game.
No deep crossing or anything, just a real nice drive. Heaps of tracks and things to see. Just head up to Coronet Peak and huck a left before the top (it’s signposted).
Lots of little side tracks you can go down, in summer not many of them are challenging. There is a very steep and cambered one at the settlement which winds down a valley to the river. We didn’t attempt this as the wreck of a land cruiser on the hillside below and uncertainty of being able to retreat put us off a bit...
You can go all the way north until Branches Station at which point there is no further public access. It’s a beautiful valley though, definitely worth spending the time to get up there.
