Itinerary description

An amazing route. We stayed the night at the start point, which is an amazing wild camping location on the border of Andorra and Spain on the Smugglers Trail. We then joined another Wikiloc trail that took us through these absolutely stunning national parks. 4x4 needed if you want to do the full trail. It’s worth it!

Hi guys, I have a 2wd VW T25, and I am keen on the route you did. Do you think it is doable in my 2wd? It has a 2.0td engine. Thanks.

Hi Seann, Most of it would be ok. I think with 2WD it would be helpful if you had diff lock capability (or an LSD gearbox). At a minimum you’ll want to make sure you have the right tires 🛞 for good grip when your going up the long steep hills that have loose gravel. Otherwise you’ll just have 1 wheel spinning and it will get frustrating. With 2WD you’ll also have to keep a faster pace going up those loose gravel hills than with a syncro, which will mean you’ll want to be sure your springs and shocks are in good shape. With the tdi you’ll have an advantage of good torque. Make sure you also bring some recovery tracks for when you get that one wheel spinning. Another good idea would be to mount an electrical recovery winch, or at least have manual one in the car, and good quality tow straps ready to. Eventually someone with a Toyota truck will drive by and help.

Good luck! It’s an amazing route!
