Itinerary description

Travelling by Toyota Rav 4 in a road that is being built by Albanian government and funds from some Arab countries. From Vlore to Brataj the road is asphalted, from Brataj to the first crossroad near Kuc the road is under construction and if travelling now expect some inconveniences such as waiting for the construction vehicles to let you go or the gravel in the road that leaves behind a lot of dust. From Kuc to Borsh the road is narrow but as there are almost no cars there is no problem to interchange. This is a dirt road with compressed gravel suitable for 4x4 cars. From Borsh to Fterre the road is graveled but in a much better condition.

Castle

Sopoti Castle. The dome on top is the remain of a mosque, strange for an area of Christianity dominance.

Derrasa Pass

Here the waters make way to the sea, on the left they run all the way down to Ionian sea while on the right they go to Shushica river, a tributory of Vjose and then to the Adriatic sea. Here the road on the right leads to Borsh but via Corraj while the one on the left leads you to Borsh as well but via Fterre vallage.

Crossroad

Another crossroad, on the left the road takes you to the Kurveleshi region in Tepelen. For the moment speaking the road snakes through the valley and sometimes the car has to get deep into stream water. In two years time it will be asphalted as the construction vehicles have started the work to link Vlora villages with those of Tepelene.

Stone Bridge

Actually this is an aqueduct built in the 19th century by Ali Pasha of Ioaninna , but the people used it to cross the river in the winter. Too bad that the bureaucracy killed this bridge.

Just few yards off the main road is the Brataj stone bridge, a marvel of Medieval architecture.

WWI WWII Memorial

The people of this region were fierce worriers. They managed to defy and finally winning against Italy during WWI, while it was a partisan stronghold during the WWII.
