Itinerary description
A scenic and fun trail from Yabucoa to Maunabo with about 50% off-road and some fun hills in 4x4 4-Low. Not an AWD trail. Some great elevation change on this trail. The trail ends in Maunabo. I continued the map on old Carretera 3 on the great Chinchorro route back to Yabucoa for those who may be new to this area.

Good traction if it has not rained recently. Fun hills with some loop trails off the main road. AWD not recommended. The transfer case is in Four Low both up and down these slopes. Great views from on top.

Loop to the left provides a beautiful view. Quite a mud bog about two-thirds of the way up this loop. We turned around as I do not have a winch on the front and no wheeling buddy with me.

Traté de ir con mi Jeep nuevo que tiene de todo pero como a 3 minutos de empezar tuve que virar. Había llovido el día anterior y estaba muy fangoso, cuando llegue a una subida que no tuve suficiente tracción para subir ya que estaba entre fango y una piedra lisa. No desinfle las gomas pq anda solo y es el mismo vehículo con el que tenía que regresar. Con el camino seco, y no estando solo creo que lo hubiera superado. Es 5 estrella de dificultad.
Si alguien quiere ir y no ir solo me avisan !

Si, el camino es un problema si estaba lluvia en los últimos dos días. Estoy usando BF Goodrich 265/70R17 K02 gomas y son bueno en condiciones mojado pero no fangoso. Si tiene “lockers” es una ayuda tremenda. Si hay un jeepero con un Rubicon con lockers y BF Goodrich Mud Terrains dígame si es possible pasar este camino en la Lluvia no muy duro.

Estoy en Fort Lauderdale mirando a los jeep Rubicon JL usados pero son bien caro ahorra aquí también, no solo en Puerto Rico. Mi viejo Arabian Jeep mira mucho mejor cuando pienso del dinero.
Si, tiene winch pero me refiero a ir en un momento que esté seco . No me gusta ir a esas ruta solo .

Tanjko, lo siento pero estoy navigando en Florida, Georgia y South Carolina. Si el camino está seca por dos días antes y usted tiene un FJ Toyota 4x4, está fácil.

Hecdiro, any Jeep With a transfer case and four wheel compound low will make this fine if not too muddy. If you have an AWD High car (CUV) it will be a tough climb but you might make it.
Hecdiro, my 2008 Jk Sport with All-Terrain tires made it fine but I needed in 4x4 low the anti-spin Dana 44 rear axle driving with both wheels. Without traction lock anti-spin in the rear axle, one hill would be difficult, even in a Wrangler with 4x4.
Brown Gorilla, good comments. I did recommend this trail only if there had been no rain for the previous 2 days. You need a transfer case and compound low gear. You also need systems (I.e. anti-spin rear axle or lockers or brake driven traction control) that will ensure both rear wheels and at least one front wheel are driven. Good All-Terrain tires are a big help. Follow those guidelines and the trail is a 6 out of 10 difficulty.

I tried it (SEP2022) and could not get past a muddy spot with a 12” vertical rock face in the trail exposed by erosion. This is about 2 miles from Carr. 3 as you head up the mountain from Yabucoa. If you have a winch you could winch yourself up over the rock as there are trees on both sides of the road. I don’t have a winch. Tires aired down and lockers front and rear are recommended. Lifted suspension with rock rails (I have those)will help you get past that rock. Mud-Terrain tires rather than All-Terrain (I had new A/T tires) tires will provide more traction with the mud. Until the road is reworked, it is a tough little spot combining steep slope, mud and a vertical rock in your passenger side track.

Orienta y dirige muy bien el grupo , se conocen nuevo sirios y se conoce gente buena . Solo off road y diversión , no voceteo ( musica alta ) no chinchorreo . .
Brown Gorilla, no estaba possible para pasar hace 6 meses durante un poquito de lluvia. Pero hace dos semanas después de 2 días seca, estaba completamente differente y más fácil.
Saben si esta ruta sigue abierta? es una ruta segura para ir un solo vehiculo?
Hoy pude confirmar que el camino de tierra y fango entre la PR-3 de Yabucoa y la PR-939 de Maunabo tienen conexión por el sector Santa Elena en un trayecto de dificultad moderada que requiere 4x4

En cualquier dirección; puedes comenzar en uno y terminar en el otro.
Veo que hay varios caminos, algunos son sin salida supongo. Habria que ir varios carros por si pasa algo. Gracias de todas maneras.

Yo no hice esta ruta, solo la sección que cruza entre Cerro Sombrerito, bajando por el Sector Santa Elena hasta la PR-3 en Yabucoa.
La ruta que hice completa fue Sector Varsovia- Minima Caliman Yabucoa, La cual comienza y termina en la PR-3. La curse solo, yendo desde Maunabo hacia Yabucoa, que es más fácil, solo para verificar el camino. Si llueve, entonces es una ruta difícil.
Comenzando en Maunabo, es todo carretera asfaltada hasta Cerro Sombrerito y la bajada de tierra y lodo hacia Yabucoa tiene muchos lugares donde puedes virar.
Por supuesto, la ruta es más divertida en grupo.
