Itinerary description
This was the one way portion of a round trip from Longyearbyen to Bartenzberg via snow machines. We were a group of 10 with 8 machines and one safety trailer. The weather was difficult with near white out conditions above sea level. The Longyearbyen pass was a challenge with top speeds on the pass at 10km per hour. Blowing and drifting snow added to the navigation challenge. GPS route supported the journey along with a well worn trail. The descent into Bartenzberg is hampered by a large valley which requires descent directly to the waters edge via a steep gully descent. Once on the Waters edge one steep move was needed to ascend back to the trail. This descent was slightly different from my previous journey which had me directly against the shoreline crossing the mouth of the deep gully. Return trip was not recorded. Weather conditions were slightly better on return. Used 24 liters of gas in my sled which was pulling the safety sled.
