Itinerary description
Date : 2024.02.04
Duration on paper : 09h26
Duration real with breaks : 10h00
Difficulty for me : T3
Physical : very difficult
Technical : difficult
Fear : average
Average Slope : +13.9% -17.2%
Attendance ascent/summit/descent : null low null
Comment : planned the route following the T3 trail from L'Ordonne that was a no go as the trail had disappeared under the snow and because of the 30-45° slope was mostly landslide and avalanche so we switched to the longer T2 trail below (+2.3km) progression was not fun snow was frozen on surface but soft below so hard impact every step followed by foot sinking below probably the worst experience I had on snowshoes very tiring but at least stabler than powder snow.
After reaching Grande-Garde which was safe to reach on the T2 trail we walked the ridge going to Seya, in summer the trail is alongside the slope it was invisible and the slope is way too dangerous in winter so we walked on the ridge on the side with the trees as a very limited safety slipping east or west is not an option here it's dangerous.
At Seya I decided going down to Petit Pré was too dangerous, no visible trail steep slope and not enough trees to hang on to, we turned back the way we came, another unplanned detour and a very long one. Tired and wanting to go back before night (failed but we had lamps at the ready) we took a shortcut through the woods NOT RECOMMENDED very steep slope 80% and only kind of safe because we went tree to tree in a very dense forest still a high chance of injury not something I will repeat.
