Itinerary description

This is a crazy snowshoeing expedition. A Swiss and a Lebanese Canadian decided to own mount Kneisseh for a day. The trail started from the Flag Hill (place of the first hoisting of the Lebanese flag) and followed a dirt road for about 1 km to reach the snow. The destination was the bombed out Channel 11 building at the top of mount Kneisseh. Going there we took to high slopes breaking a sweat. The view at the top was that of a 360 degrees Lebanon. The skies was clear and were able to see the Bekaa Valley, mount Sannine, and the Mediterranean at once. The way back we decided to explore the side of the Kneisseh facing the Bekaa valley after passing the Roman temple ruins.
The weather was cold with temps close to zero and a gusty wind that went through our Gortex jackets.
This is a difficult hike and we did not use known trails; we improvised as we went by. The last stretch of the trail was a steep hill that we had to slide down close to the Sohat spring.
