Itinerary description
This is a nice easy loop in summer (about 4Km) and lots of fun in the snow. Recommend walking poles in anything over 30cm of snow as there's some steep traverses and the trail is easy to follow in deeper snow.
To my mind, these sections of Artemis and Atlanti offer the best views and stretches of forest. Closest to an Alpine vibe you can get in Cyprus.
The start of the trail is often the most challenging in the snow as this section of the Artemis trail is hard to follow and is the steepest section. Once you get to the first rocky outcrop, it's pretty much flat and downhill.
Waypoints
Heading up to intersect Artemis trail
Start of the trail across the road from Ski club parking. Head straight up through the forest for 200m uphill to hit the Artemis trail. In the snow there's not much to mark this section of Artemis so start traversing to the left after about 50m altitude increase.
Artemis
Entering a broad forested flat ridge. Follow Artemis into the forest for 200m or so before heading off the trail to the left, roughly in the middle of the ridge.
Leaving Artemis trail
At this point we leave the Artemis trail and traverse through a broad flat forested area where the are hints of stone structures (which I believe are some of the remains of the Venetian camp).
Heading South
Just head south in the middle of this flat ridge and a trail starts to appear 500m or so - there's a large U-shaped black pine close by. Even in deep snow, the outlines of the trail can be seen right before you start to dip down toward Atlanti trail. Once your own the trail, just follow it down hill until you hit Atlanti and then follow that back to Ski club/parking.
U-shaped Black Pine
This U-shaped black pine is a good indication that your on target to hit the trail (even without snow the start of the trail from Artemis is hard to define).
First signs of a trail
Just when the ridge starts to dip down, you can see signs of a trail with a decaying stone wall to the right. Follow the line of the wall and the trail will start to be more visible.
