Itinerary description
Beauuutiful solo snowshoeing, dramatic surroundings with astonishing overlooking panoramas that spans in all directions throughout the whole trail:
To the west, overlooking a series of mountains and valleys in the Chouf area with the Mediterranean blue sea in the background;
To the East, an expansive panorama of the Bekaa valley wz Lake Qaraoun; and Mountain Sannine covered in white to the north.
I took the trailhead of the LMT section 19, where u need to go right few meters directly after the reserve entrance gate, during which a progressive ascent via the Barouk forest. Then u merge to the right and start descending toward Arz El Maaser; took my first coffee break under the majestic Lamartine cedar tree aged impressively over 3000years old!!! Which means it was first sprouted back in the days when Assyrians still ruled Phoenicia!!
Later, an unappetizing prospect of grueling vertical climb of approx. 300m to reach the top of the hill, where the communication antenna is. A jacket was mandatory cz of the gusts. Enjoy the expansive extraordinary panorama of the Bekaa valley, Qaraoun lake and mount Hermon covered in white in the back.
Then u start descending ur way back to the starting point passing by the forest again and the artificial lake.
There r unleashed dogs at the antenna, but they were friendly, anw i ddnt get too close.
I rated it difficult because of the physical effort required to climb the difficult steep ascent especially from Arz El Maaser to the antenna.
