Itinerary description
One of the most difficult (and the most beautiful) snowshoeing trails in winter (easier in summer). What made this hike a really tough one is the amount of fresh snow on the whole trail this season. Snowshoes and winter poles are mandatory. Snowshoes with dowhill mode are recommended to assist in the steep downhill slopes close to Arz Jaj. Sceneries are amazing all around. We started on the road below Mar Gerges church (the road to the church was snow-blocked). Watch you steps carefully. Try not to get close to rocks or trees. This trail is physically and technically demanding. Steep slopes are difficult (and bit risky) on the way up and down, especially when getting closer to Arz Jaj. I do not recommend doing it solo. To be done only by experienced snowshoers. This hike seems short (less than 10 km) but it is much harder than a 30 km hike done in summer. Start early and do not waste your time on the trail. I strongly recommend this trail in winter for expert snowshoers looking for challenge.
