Itinerary description

This is a slightly truncated version of the Wood Mountain Loop Trail, which is an excellent snowshoe or ski trail in winter or easy hike in summer. At 3 kms in distance and just 200 meters of vertical, it can be done in 2 hours in winter or an hour in summer by a relaxed but reasonably fit group. The views of Comox, Courtenay, Cumberland, Comox Lake, and Denman and Hornby Islands are excellent. The access is a 20-25 km drive west of Comox on a reasonable road, which can be a bit treacherous (slippery) in winter after a big snowfall. The road is gravel for about the last 10 kms up Forbidden Plateau Road.
