Itinerary description
⭐️ Positano SUP dalla spiaggia fino a Vettica Maggiore
Praiano is a picturesque municipality situated between the towns of Positano and Conca dei Marini. Unjustly little known compared to the more famous ones, this town can boast a long tourist tradition dating back to the period of the Maritime Republic of Amalfi when the doges of Amalfi chose Praiano as their summer residence.
Praiano, the town that greets the sun
The structure of the village follows a typical pattern of the Divine Coast where men had to wrest the land from the often steep mountains that plunge into the sea. The village of Praiano develops at the emerged base of Mount Tre Pizzi (about 1120 metres above sea level) and extends up to Marina di Praia, the suggestive beach situated at the end of the Praia valley and set among high rocky ridges. This natural landing place, used since the times of the ancient Plagianum, (Praiano's original name), is guarded by a medieval tower belonging to the widespread network of sighting and signalling the arrival of the feared Saracen pirates.
One of the typical characteristics of the Amalfi Coast in general and of Praiano in particular are the stairways. Several really suggestive points of the municipal territory can only be reached by using the lower limbs. As the saying goes, "not all bad things come to harm", the absence of convenient roads has safeguarded the beauty and typicality of places otherwise exposed to the aggression of a not always careful tourism.
Here is where to go to the sea in Praiano
Capo Sottile divides Praiano from its hamlet of Vettica Maggiore where there is the Gavitella cove, a beach with a very particular exposure that allows it to be irradiated by the sun from dawn to dusk, contrary to the other beaches of the Coast. This beach has a wonderful view of Positano and the island of Capri, a watchtower built in the Spanish period and a natural basin located inside a cave called "Fontana dell'Altare".
Praiano and surroundings
Compared to the other towns on the Amalfi Coast, Praiano is about 30 km from the town of Vietri sul Mare and about 25 km from the village of . The town of Maiori is 15 km away and the town of Praiano is 14 km away. Praiano is only 10 Km from the small town of Atrani and 9 Km from Amalfi with its splendid cathedral. 16 Km separate Praiano from Ravello with its splendid views and about 15 Km from the village of Furore. The Sorrento Peninsula with its attractions, Sorrento in primis, is about 21 km away.
The true beauty of the Praiano area cannot be fully understood unless the visit ends with a boat trip, as some of its marvellous little beaches set among the steep rocks can only be reached by sea, and the splendid caves of Africana and Suppraiano are also easily accessible by sea.
