Itinerary description
Wonderful 2 days trip with everything included. Visit the world known ancient ruins of Vergina and the toom of Filippos, the father of Alexander the Great. Continue with a drive next to the Vergina dam and head to Saint Prodromos monastery, built in the 4th century, with wonderful views of Aliakmonas river. Then ride along the river and get into a country road full of twisties. Be careful after Daskio, the road is a little bit abandoned and needs attention. Finally reach the dam before Velvendo and headed by the road that goes aside it. Saw some dangerous rock slide there but if the bar is open, then go ahead.
Reached Velvendo (between the dam and the village, I forgot to record but it is only one road. You cannot miss it.)
Near Velvendo, visited the Skepasto location, a magical place in the woods. Take some food for picknic 😉. Slept over to Velvedo.
Next day morning headed to the Polifitos Lake and the amazing bridge. Early morning the colors and reflection at the water is out of this world.
Then climbed back to an amazing country road with excellent tarmac and twisties which ends up to a the entrance of a wonderful forest road of around 10 kms but really safe. Then with a bad pavement forest road we reached Fteri, and then the amazing Skoteina dam. We visited also the Skotina village which is abandoned but really beautiful. Its local name is Morno (kind of Mordor... Skotina means dark in Greek).
Then we reached Paleo Keramidi to watch Olimpus from a different perspective before heading back to Thessaloniki.
