Itinerary description
Done in 5h40 min net time, so 8kmh moving pace.
The 10 km doing on snow were slow as path was sometimes quite hard to see.
The original plan was to leave Andermatt, cross the Furkapass and fall into Obergoms (with a small detour in the Rhone Gletscher and the Grimselpass) but we encountered 20cm of snow at 2200 metre altitude just before the Furkapass and at times visibility of less than 50 metres (Saturday 7 September 2019).
The first path which starts in Andermatt and rises to around the 2000 metre line is highly advisable. We could only imagine the good views.
When we got to Tiefenbach we decided it was better to head back down to Realp and call altitude a day. There seems to be a proper mountain path that crisscrosses the Furkaroad.
The valley paths are ok.
As we were fresh back in Andermatt we decided to roll into the Schollenen gorge all the way to Göschenen and then broadly follow National Route 2 River Reuss downstream. This is through fairly uncomplicated dual track paths with the occasional single track.
For a better idea of what Ursner Höhenweg looks like without snow and thick fog see link.
