Itinerary description
This 18 km (a wrong turn made it 20 km for me) local trail pearl is mostly used by hikers and MTBs but is really good for trail running.
The trail underwent a much-needed renovation early 2018. Markings and information plaquettes are now really easy to follow (ironic since I couldn't do just that).
The trail is a celebration to the historical and cultural landscape of the islands of Lake Mälaren. It runs through pine forests, oak forests and agriculture areas with a mix of single track trail with stones and roots, rocks and dirt roads. It starts and ends within the world heritage listed royal domain of Drottningholm.
Along the path there are several information spots where you get insight into how the landscape looked and how the inhabitants lived centuries ago.
The trail is flat with few real ascends and descends. With that said, the total climb according to my Garmin Fenix 3 is 305 meters (the GPX-track states moderate 300 ft). Some part is technical due to rocks and a lot of roots but mostly it is moderate in difficulty.
If you are visiting or living in Stockholm, this trail is well worth the short detour from the city. Easy accessible by car, bike or subway/bus.
