Black Canyon Thunder and Lightning Falls....EPIC! (Lamington NP)

This has to be my most epic hike yet. I absolutely loved this was but thoroughly shagged. Please be aware that I trailran the Border Track and Albert River Circuit segments which shaved off a ton of time. Overall time was 7hrs and I was pushing it. If you are only walking, expect easily 9-10hrs.

If you want to prep for this adventure, you need to watch the video. It contains numerous time stamps at key locations.

Some notes:
1. This was my first trek to find these waterfalls so my route there (especially the descent at 'The Turnoff') involved some wrong turns here and there. The most notable is that on the downhill descent about third way down, you will come across a beautiful silver gully. The key here is to cross over to the righthandside and find "the track" if you can call it that. The video will show my error here but also my realisation how I was on the wrong dangerous side and correcting my route. However, I did come across a beautiful hidden waterfall system going this way.

2. Although there are several ribbons placed here and there, it nevertheless can be easy to lose your way. Don't underestimate this segment, it can be life-endangering if you don't have your wits fully focused, and are not good with steep climbs.

3. I wore boots and King Gee style work pants - thank God I did, they are life savers!! You'll see why...

4. The rock-hop up and down stream can be extremely slippery, so make sure you are very capable with this skillset. You will come across a rock pool that appears to be impassable, and you will consider swimming in it. On the way upstream, I skirted around to the highside on the right to stay dry, lol.

5. Both the crazy descent, and the river rock-hop will involve lots of real rugged bushbashing segments. This cannot be avoided. Loads of lawyer vine (wait-a-while) all around, and several Gympie Gympie Suicide Plants on the River rock-hopping stretch - keep your eyes peeled for these.

6. I setup a fresh 4-stone Rocky Cairn at the intersection of the Albert River and uphill stretch. Much more obvious to identify from the distance.

The GPX file gets screwy as you reach the turn-off and descend downhill, and in the Albert River Gorge. GPS signal there is rubbish and I had two GPS tracking devices running.

WARNING: DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THIS TRAIL. IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND TREACHEROUS....yet absolutely amazing and worth every life-endangering risk to get to what is undoubtedly "The Hidden Gem of Lamington National Park".
