Itinerary description

This is quite a runnable stretch. The 50+ km were done in 5h 38 min of moving time.

Leaving Glarus the path meanders a little bit around houses and plots of land so one has to pay a attention. After leaving the inhabited areas it is very easy as you will follow the stream that leads onto the Klontalersee.

I did take the road around the Klontalersee which is faster than the path (path is on south side, road on north side). The lake is pristine and it is surprising to see a fair bit of activity. Clearly a road that road cyclists like.

The paths up to and from Pragelpass are uncomplicated and unexposed.

Even though this is a "valley run" the views are good throughout the entire run.

About 4 km before arriving into Muotathal there is a nice stone path where slabs of stones have been laid out so you can comfortably step on them.

From Muothathal it is all flat and you follow the path parallel to the Muota river.

For somebody hiking this route, I would probably recommend stopping in Muotathal and taking the bus to Schwyz.

For somebody running the route, I would probably recommend stopping by the Stoos cog rail and taking the same bus to Schwyz.

There is quite a bit of asphalt (about 5 km) once you get into Schwyz which you may chose to avoid.

In fact, it may be preferable to cut the route shorter an eliminate the Schwyz outskirts part and go through the proper path that goes on the south side of the Klontalersee.

Hi thanks to your writeup I did the same run.
I did the route backwards, but starting in Brunnen. Had to walk some parts above Muotathal, it's very steep and hot with the slope facing the sun - the Glarus side of the pass is much cooler. But everything else is runnable.
Highlights are runnning along muota river and down and around the Klontalersee on the south side.

I carried a Camelback reservoir with over 2 litres of water. It can hold up to 3 litres. There are some streams to fill up and a couple of bars near the Klontalersee camping and a restaurant in Pragelpass.
