Itinerary description
This trail is a part of the so called "Kingsroad" that leads all the way from Reykjavík through Þingvellir to Gullfoss and Geysir. This part is the eigth episode in a series of nine trails that are 10-20 km, optimal for trail running or hiking. It is called the Kingsroad, because it goes along the road that was built for the Danish king, Frederick VIII., when he visited Iceland in the year 1907. Until then there were no roads in this area, only riding paths.
This trail leads through beautiful birch woods mostly on soft soil. If it has been rainy, it can be muddy. Midway one crosses Brúará, a picturesque river with a spectacular blue color.
