Itinerary description
The route is 29km and the ascent and descent is 2100 metres (the starting and ending point are only 30 height metres apart).
The lower sections are easy (yellow marked) but steep skiing pistes.
The the views on a sunny day are quite impressive all around. The Plaine Morte glacier you will only see when you get to the top.
The paths down are all very runnable.
However, there is one very steep section (we did it up hill) , with small elements of exposure, and use of ropes for climbing up/scrambling safely. That's the last uphill, from La Cave d'Er de Lens to Cry d' Er. I would not recommend that section in the opposite direction (going down), or with wet-icy conditions.
Bits of easily crossed snow up in mid/late July, but only from about 2700 metres up..
No water above the 2200 metre altitude or so.
Midway in the "figure of eight" of this track you have a nice mountain-skiing restaurant in Cry d´Er Cable car. This allows you to cut this route shorter if you wish.
Done in group of 6 runners in net time of 3h48 (plenty of stops), so 7.6 kmh of moving speed.
