Itinerary description
You don't have to be a rail enthusiast to enjoy this journey as the scenery is wonderful, the sea on one side and the Lakeland fells on the other.
Some of the trains are loco hauled (class 37) with four mark 2 coaches. If you use this service you can enjoy the space of these coaches. You can find out which times use the locos using "Realtime Trains" on the internet. By looking at particular options you can find out if a run is diesel hauled or by diesel multiple unit. (you want the former for the mark 2 coaches). Our day return at the time of writing was just over £27 for two adults (to Maryport).
Maryport is a small, pretty town with a Roman museum as well as other attractions.
You can find out on the internet for details of the reason for running this unique and popular service using the class 37,s The loco pulling (and pushing) our train was 37401.

Famous for it's nuclear processing plant. A good place to see rather old but good locomotives. Most are used to transport nuclear flasks around the country as well as use on this passenger line.
