🇪🇸 Español: Vía ferrata Estrechos de la Hoz, considerada de nivel K2/K3, situada en la localidad de Formiche Alto (Teruel).

Desde Valencia, la vía ferrata se encuentra a unos 140km. Desde la carretera, hay un cartel que indica la pista forestal. Según de donde llegas, hay dos entradas por pista forestal. Nosotros cogimos la primera (desde Valencia). Hasta llegar al aparcamiento, la pista está bien, sin demasiados baches y pedreras. Nos sabemos en qué estado está la pista de la segunda entrada.

Hay varios aparcamientos. Nosotros hemos aparcado en el primero, al tener un coche bajo. En la ruta, hemos señalizado los dos otros aparcamientos. Tener en cuenta que es una ruta circular, con lo cual más cerca aparcan del inicio, más tendrán que caminar al final para recuperar el coche.

Esta ruta es una mezcla entre vía ferrata y ruta de senderismo.

La vía ferrata cuenta con 3 tramos, los tres estrechos que constituye los Estrechos de la Hoz. Los dos primeros tramos son de nivel K2, sin dificultad mayor. El último tramo, de nivel K3, es largo y más complicado, que requiere técnica y fuerza en los brazos. Antes de este último tramo, hay un escape bien señalizado. En este punto hay que chequear la fuerza y las condiciones físicas de cada uno. Nos queda casi una hora de esfuerzo, con un último tramo vertical desplomado. También hay que tener muy en cuenta que los niños, o adultos, de menos de 165 cm de altura van a tener algunas dificultades en la progresión, por la distancia entre grapas y entre grapas inferiores y superiores.

La ferrata es larga, muy larga. Nos gustó mucho el primer tramo, cuando hay agua es espectacular porque progresas justo encima del río. Pero luego es repetitivo, ya que progresa únicamente en una pared vertical. Al escaparse antes del último tramo no pierdes nada. Es interesante para los ferreteros experimentados, ya que pide más técnica y fuerza, pero nada más.

La ruta de senderismo a inicio e fin y entre tramos es fácil y bonita. Caminas por el bosque, cruzas varias veces el río. No hay mucho desnivel positivo, excepto al final al cruzar el corta fuego.

ATENCIÓN! Aconsejamos no hacer esta ferrata tras lluvias ya que la roca resbala muchísimo, aunque sea una lluvia finita. Nosotros intentamos hacerla un día y tuvimos que volver porque nos cayeron unas lluvias de "sorpresa" por no consultar el tiempo 😅 Si ha llovido anteriormente es mejor esperar a que la roca esté bien seca ya que puede resultar peligroso.

From Valencia, the via ferrata is about 140km away. From the road, there is a sign pointing to the forest path. Depending on where you arrive from, there are two entrances via forest path. We took the first one (from Valencia). Until you reach the parking lot, the track is fine, without too many potholes and rocks. We do not know in what state is the track of the second entrance.

There are several parking lots. We parked in the first one, as we have a small car. On the track, we have marked the two other parking lots. Keep in mind that it is a loop trail, so the closer you park to the start, the more you will have to walk to the end to retrieve the car.

This route is a mix between via ferrata and hiking trail.

The via ferrata has 3 sections, the three straits that make up the Estrechos de la Hoz. The first two sections are level K2, without major challenge. The last section, level K3, is long and more challenging, requiring skill and arm strength. Before this last section, there is a well-marked escape route. At this point it is necessary to assess the strength and physical condition of each person. There is almost an hour of exertion left, including a last steep vertical stretch. Also keep in mind that children, or adults, less than 165 cm (5'4") tall will have some trouble in the progression, given the distance between holds and from upper to lower holds.

The ferrata is long, very long. We really liked the first section, when there is water it is spectacular because you progress just above the river. But then it is repetitive, as it progresses sideways along the wall only. By escaping before the last stretch you don't miss out on anything. It might be interesting for experienced climbers, as it requires more skill and strength, but nothing beyond that.

The hiking trail at the beginning and end and between sections is easy and beautiful. You walk through the forest, crossing the river several times. There is not much elevation gain, except at the end when you cross the firebreak.

WARNING: We advise you not do this via ferrata until after some time that it has rained because the rock is very slippery, even if it is a light rain. We learned this the hard way for not checking the weather and getting some "surprise" rain showers 😅 Wait until the rock is dry as it can be dangerous.
