Itinerary description
If you want to see pretty Catelonian villages along te Garona (Garuna) river, this the walk for you. The walk is very easy and stays mainly along the riverside.
We start in the village Garros (easy parking in the Career de la Carretera) en walk to the picturesque Place Major and the Sant Julian church with its graveyards around.
We leave the village crossing the C-28 road to reach the Garuna river. Enjoy the riverside.
You will pass thermal baths for a "dive" and you will arrive at Arties. Pass the higher situated church of Santa Maria, it has nice paintings inside. Arties is at the split of another river: the Arriu de Valarties. You will find places for a drink in Arties.
We continue further along River Garuna over a nice path to reach the village Gessa, which is situated at the north of the river Garuna.
Here you will find another Roman church: the St Peir (Peter).
From here you will walk back along the north of the River Garuna. Before you enter the C-28, you may climb Rocca Santa Christine, where you will find an old rail-road for mining transports. Go BACK to the the C-28 for a dull part of the walk over 600m to Arties and pass St John's church. From here a nice road Camine Salider brings you to an hermitage and back to Garros.
