Itinerary description
We started the route next to La Residencia La Font. Go past the residencia and take the path on the left which goes past La Font dels Enamorats. The path is well sign-posted and follows the yellow and white PR signs heading for Aiguafreda de Dalt. There is plenty of parking near here. You could get the train to Aiguafreda but I wouldn't recommend it as you've then got a 2.5 km walk through town to get to the start of the trail.
The beginning of the path is very sunny. Shortly after you start, you can hear the sound of the river on your left and are soon walking along next to it. There are quite a few small paths leading down to the riverside, which is great for paddling and picnics.
There are information boards on the path with pictures of the animals and plants you can see there.
The first gorg you go past is La Resclosa and just after that you get to Gorg de la Sort. A sunny day in July and there were quite a few people and dogs swimming there. Cross the broken wooden bridge and then there's a few steep steps and a fairly steep path on the other side of the river, one part has a rope you can hold onto to pull yourself up, which wasn't really necessary, but I imagine it might be after rain. Good fun for kids. This leads you up to a wider track, where you turn right, still following the yellow and white PR signs for Aiguafreda de Dalt. There were a few cars parked on the side by a bench and you get a nice view of Sant Marti church in the hills opposite. It's also very sunny so make sure you've got plenty of water.
Carry on along the track and you'll come across La Frau, Centre d'Art i Natura, which is owned by the sculptor Paco Ballesteros. Look out for the dog and the dragon.
Shortly after, you cross the river on wooden trunk stepping stones. If you carry on up to Aiguafreda de Dalt, this is where you leave the river. We decided against this as it was very hot without the shade and little legs were aching. There were lots of butterflies on this section of the path. We took a small path back through the trees leaving the PR and following signposts for "Enllaç itinerari de la riera de Martinet". Our route wasn't the most direct one but we did find a lovely spot by the river for another long paddle. We scrambled up the other side of the river, a steep but very short climb, which brought us back to the wider track we were on earlier. Turn left here and walk along for about 5 minutes until you find the turning on the left which takes you back to Gorg de la Sort. Still plenty of people there later on in the afternoon and more dog walkers. Now you're doing the same path as before but in reverse.
