The structure in the first three images is called badlands, this is an structure formed by the erosion of clay due to heavy rains. Clay is a soft sedimentary rock, that's why it has been easily shaped by the rain. In the base of this structure there's limestone and other hard rocks, while in the most upper layer there's clay, which is eroded and softened. These sporadic rains are very intense thsn common rains like the Inés un Madrid, that's why there are grooves on the rocks which have been formed by these rains. The next two images that are shown above show clay that has been eroded by rain, this has formed that uneven landscape. In both landforms we can find the same soft rocks, like sandstone and clay. As we have a semi-arid climate, there are few rains and this makes bushes adapted to semi-arid climate, like the retamas, to grow here. We are only going to see more sturdy bushes next to the river's coast. Regarding fauna we can't find much except for some rabitts and hares.

Meander of the Tajo river

This meander has been formed in the middle course of the Tajo river, with a base made of soft sedimentary rocks.Because of that, this one is going to be different from Toledo's one which is going to be formed in hard rock. It's an divagating meander (meandro divagante) because erosion is going to occur only in one of the river banks, and in the other, deposition is going to occur. We have obtained these meander because of the lost of energy of the river, which has slowed down and avoided the hardest rocks. There's very few vegetation as we can only see some retamas again , and we only can see some animals like rabbits hares and a few ducks.

In these photos, we can see the different vegetation of the Mirador de los Enebros, which is very similar to the one in the last landscapes. In the first picture shown we can see a plain, in which the original flora has been reduced and replaced by crops like cereals or vines, other plants like holm oaks, retamas and junipers and some aromatic plants as thymes or rosemary. In the second photo, the flora of the badlands is shown, in which we can find plants adapted to the arid-climate like the flax-leaved daphne, the ephedras, the thyme and the esparto, which are plants which prepare the soil for plants which need more nutrients, but because of the poor climate, this objective is never achieved. We can also see the characteristic junipers which give name to these lands. We obtain gin from the fruits of the junipers. In the third picture we can see part of the badlands and the shore of the river. Here, in the river's shore, we can see different types of plants depending on the water they need, they are all called riparian plants. The decidious trees , like white poplars or aspens, are found near us, but nearer to the river than the other badlands plants (shown in the last picture), and, later, even nearer to the water, we find trees like the French tamarisk. Lastly, almost in the water, in the damped areas near the water, we can find common reeds or reedmaces.

This landform is formed by erosion in the bottom of the river in the riverbed, and not in the sides of the river, like the last meander we have seen. This meander is an excavated meander (meandro encajado) , because the erosion occurs in the riverbed. Banks of the river are formed by very hard metamorphic rocks like gneiss and quartzite. Regarding flora, we can see white poplars, alyssums, retamas and other riparian plants. However in the cuts of the slopes we don't find almost any type of vegetation. In the pictures we can't see any animal, but we can suppose that there are amphibians and birds like ducks.
