This is the walk you need to do to reach the entrance to the wonderful Dobsinska Ice Caves from the parking lot. After paying the usual €10 for parking, we take the dirt road towards the caves indicated by an arrow on a huge sign and we start walking following the flow of people who go up with us or come back. After 500 meters of road, another small sign tells you to go left. We take the path that continues to climb rather steeply zigzagging through the woods. We continue to meet people coming down, but we don't understand how much is missing from the entrance to the caves. In practice we still have to do 600 meters of path to get to the ticket office and entrance. It's a half-hour walk with an altitude difference of almost 130 metres. Incredible that there is nothing on site that warns of the remoteness of the entrance. Only on the site is there a description of the route.
However, the beauty and uniqueness of these caves makes you forget the unexpected trek to get here from the parking lot. In our life we have seen dozens and dozens of caves, even non-tourist ones (in my past as an amateur speleologist), but never like these. There are two in Slovakia, and we decided to visit these which are the most spectacular. Visit only in Slovak (like almost everything here), but there is the possibility of downloading an app with the explanation in English, but we learned about it later... There are very few caves with ice, not in the ice, in the world , another two-three in Europe, but only this one has such a large amount of ice at such low altitudes, we are below 1000 meters above sea level.
Track edited. The photos are unfortunately a bit blurry. I didn't realize that I had set a low ISO and the shutter speed got too long.
