Casco Histórico Coin
This is a short circular walk taking in the old historic centre of Coin.
I decided to start at the north end of Coin where there is free parking adjacent Parque Alfarero Pepe Cumbreras, and next to the Sepe Social security building.
Take a short stroll along Avenida Rey Juan Carlos to Plaza Principe de España, passing the fountains and then going through the shaded Parque San Agustin. From Plaza San Agustin you make your way to the San Andrés church (which is being renovated at the moment).
Next you come to the convent and church of Santa Maria de la Encarnación. This is also the exhibition centre for the work of Antonio Reyna Manescau. It is well worth a visit to this art museum (also being renovated at the moment). Opening times are Monday to Friday
10am – 2pm and 5pm – 8pm. closed weekends.
Carrying on you then pass El Molino, a flour mill which is still in use, from here you go to Plaza San Andrés, which goes into the main plaza – Plaza Alameda, which has a nice Mediterranean feel to it. Passing through it you arrive at the Torre de los Trinitarios, a triangular tower that goes back to the 18th century.
Next you arrive at the church of San Juan Bautista in the hidden Plaza Bermúdez de la Rubia.
Make your way through three more squares – Plaza Escamilla, Plaza Andalucía and my favourite Plaza Villa (which has an underground car park if you want to make the walk easier).
Plaza Villa is a good spot to have some refreshments as there are a few bars around, before heading back to the car park.
I was surprised how much more there is to Coin and I found the circuit very enjoyable.
