Itinerary description

Self guided walking in the Sierras de los Filabres located just east of the Alpuharras and is a beautiful and surreal landscape covered in almond and olive groves. The area is surrounded by dramatic hills and isolated valleys. Amongst the quaint mountain villages, there are abandoned fincas and pastures of rosemary, thyme and sage. This is also a memorable location in Springtime for bird watching and the almond blossom and wild flowers are spectacular sights. Lubrin is an authentic Andalucian mountain village, 2,000ft above the Costa del Almeria and 45 minutes from the popular coastal resort of Mojacar.

Almeria, being a land of contrasts is, without doubt, a walking paradise. It is the sunniest, warmest and driest region in Western Europe with annual sunshine of 3,000 hours and annual rainfall of just 20cm ( 8 inches). Just 30km away is the Tabernas desert covering an area of 280 km² and is protected as a nature reserve. In this place were shot some scenes of the famous films of Sergio Leone as Once Upon a Time in the West , For a Fistful of Dollars , For a Few Dollars More. It is currently home to two western-themed theme parks that take advantage of the original movie sets.

Cortijo Fuente Arriba offers peace and tranquillity, yet Lubrin village is just a short 5 minute walk and has all the amenities you could wish for including wine or beer & tapas for 2 Euros and a 3 course Menu of the Day for just 10 Euros. Unlike the coast the bars and restaurants are open through the year. The villagers are truly welcoming and you are assured of a cultural and gastronomic experience of an authentic, whitewashed Andalucian pueblo.
