Itinerary description
Mitsuzawa Park is an athletic park also known as one of the popular cherry blossom viewing sites in Yokohama. It is also one of the hilly places to view Mount Fuji. It was formerly the grounds of Gokoku Shrine (local version of Yasukuni Shrine) banned during the second world war. The area where the Shinto Shrine was to be built is now the place to mourn the war dead with impressive peace monument. Popular cherry viewing places in this park include Sakurayama near the athletic field. near the peace monument and the children's playground at the northeastern edge of the park adjacent to Bugenji Green area. Bugenji Temple at the northeastern flank of the hill is a quiet but time-honored Buddhist temple visited by Heinrich Schliemann in mid 19th century. Mitsuzawa Kamicho Station is about a few minutes walk from the temple.
