Itinerary description
We went to Comares to hike the 7 Fountains route. We started walking from the Parking area at off the Ma-165 Road. First along the road passing the Fuent Sana (healthy fountain), until we arrived where the Fuente de la Cruz is shown on the maps. (we did not find the two fountains "de la Cruz" and "del Pilar"). The track we had on our GPS indicated that we climb up at a difficult and somewhat dangerous point on the side of the road, and for this reason half of the group walked back to a "path" that leaves the MA-165 towards some houses. From there there is a mountain road on the left. Then we came across what appeared to be the ruin of a very old well, and further on we reached the Fuente Delgada (Slim). Here we crossed the tarmac road, soon to arrive at the Fuente Gorda (Fat) where the Via Ferrata begins. From there a path runs along the side of the cliff and up to the Viewing Point in the village. A bit further on there is another pathway which is probably a little easier. Once in the village we climbed to the Castle, the Arab reservoir, the Fortress, and the Cemetery. From the top there are spectacular views. We had a refreshment in one of the bars in the village and started for home. The route is well signposted but the locators for Fuente de la Cruz and Del Pilar could be improved. The Via Ferrara is a new installation and the new entrance to the village, which is impressive, was inaugurated at the end of November 2014.
