Desembocadura del Rio Guadalhorce
This walk starts at the entrance to the Guadalhorce nature reserve and follows part of the GR 249 towards Peñón de Zapata in Alhaurin de la Torre. The walk follows the perimeter fence of Malaga airport for several kilometres before crossing a dry riverbed and then following a path that comes to the edge of the river Guadalhorce. Here you have to cross the river over a concrete path. Luckily it was shallow but you will get your feet.
With heavy rains I can imagine it might be hard to cross.
I stayed on the main gravel path but I should have taken the smaller path closer to the river, which eventually I did.
Eventually you will get to the new wooden bridge the Pasarela de Guadalhorce which brings you back into the Guadalmar nature reserve. Here you have the option to explore the reserve by going left at the gate.
If you like plane spotting this walk is for you. I must have seen about 50 planes come in to land at very close proximity, and a few taking off in the distance on the main runway.
Although it is a circular walk unfortunately the Guadalhorce river is mainly hidden by bamboos and trees, so you don’t get to see much of the river, but there are plenty of birds about for bird spotters.
After the walk I found a nice Chiringuito two minutes away next to the seafront.
