Immaculate white, the White Dune is a very large sand dune which plunges into the lagoon and forms a small lagoon in its center. It is a flamingo's paradise.
Among the natural curiosities of Dakhla, the White Dune is a must. It is a crescent-shaped white sand dune located 20 kilometers from the kitesurfer town. The Dune Blanche is above all a home port for several migratory birds. The pink flamingos have taken up residence there.
The white sand and strong winds give a majestic feel to this tourist hotspot. Once at the top of the White Dune, a dream panorama emerges.
At high tide, it transforms into an island. Until now, this phenomenon remains a real mystery. No reliable scientific data or theory can explain it. It is therefore a geological curiosity of the region which is very popular with passing tourists.
There are two ways to visit the Dune Blanche, on board a 4×4 or during kitesurfing descents.
At high tide, the White Dune appears to float in the bay. At low tide, millions of fiddler crabs gather on the banks of the natural pool that forms inside.
