Itinerary description

El Tesorero is an abandoned mining village situated in a beutiful and peaceful part of the mountains.

To arrive at the start of the walk, take the GRS 8101 from Caniles and after 29 kilometres you will see a turning on the left with a sign to El Tesorero - see photo number 1. The views along the GRS8101 were wonderful and it was a pleasure to drive along this road.

The track is in very good condition and you should drive a further 8.5 kilometres in order to arrive at the start of the walk - see second photo.

El Tesorero dates back to 1743 where the property register details a Cortijo called El Tesorero. It's most prosperous epoch was between 1910 to 1920 and at that time the village was provided with a school which continued to function until the 1960s. The inhabitants were miners of various minerals of which copper and iron were the most abundant.

I recommend this walk.
