Itinerary description

Visited 2018.2.24.
Magome River flowing close to Hamamatsu Station used to be a part of Old Tenryu river. Since the massive cropland development move since the late 17th century, the tie to the main flow has been cut but still one of the flows that might frequently be flooded and might affect the urban area of the city. This riverside area, however, is also a nice place for a walk and jog. I tried one of the popular walk courses along the Magome River after visiting Costco and neighboring shopping area. Notable parks in this route include
Funakoshi Park, Noguchi Park and Mishimayozu Park.
The trail between Funakoshi Park and Mishimayozu Park seems to be popular among joggers, frequent walkers and bicycle riders.

1 Costco Hamamatsu and Neighboring Shopping Malls
Costco Hamamatsu is located near the Miyatake intersection of Hamamatsu city not far away from Tenryu River. After Ito Yokado closed the store, Costco took over the place and the other neighboring shopping malls such as Frespo, Akachan Honpo and Xebio form the shopping mall complex. Hamamatsu was quick to jump on the bandwagon of deregulation enabling the large-scale shopping malls to emerge. The shopping mall complex with Ito Yokado and its neighboring malls was the one of the earliest cases. Such large scale shopping malls are popular among oversea residents living in and around Hamamatsu city.

2. Funakoshi Park is one of the popular urban community parks along Magome river. The riverside road adjoining the park is also noted for the beauty of Cherry-blossom tunnel during late March to early April.

Costco Hamamatsu

Costco is undoubtedly one of the most popular worldwide grocery store chains. Costco Hamamatsu is the only store in Shizuoka Prefecture. It is membership only store for sure but still people are lining up to get membership. This area has other great large scale shops such as Frespo so it is a great place for shopping spree.

Fushimi Inari Daimyojin

It is surprising to find a Shinto shrine at the shopping complex. It only shows the name Fushimi Inari Daimyojin, one of the subsidiary shrines of Fushimi Inari Taisha shrine in Kyoto, well-known fox shrines in Japan. There is no guiding board to explain when and how the shrine was established there.
