Itinerary description
A very nice short walk from one of the ski stations at the border of the provinces Asturias and Castilla y Leon: San Isidro. There's plenty of parking at the start of the route. We went there when there was just a bit of snow on the mountaintops, and the road itself, especially the first 2.5 km, is very accessible and safe.
Only the last ascend of about 500 meters is very narrow and can be slippery under wet conditions. Therefore, you have to take good care when you do this route with young kids.
The route ends at the pretty lake Ausente, where you can sit down at one of the many rocks for a picnic (you have to bring your own food though, there are no bars or restaurants at the lake).
If you're accommodated close to Oviedo, it's only a one-hour drive to ski station San Isidro, so it's a great walk to do on a sunny afternoon (and of course, to go skiing in winter)!
