Did you miss your train to the city centre at Hauketo station and do not want to stay waiting for the next one? This walk is for you! Ljabru station, the next stop in the line, is less than 20 minutes walking away, and the route is completely stroller friendly.
Firstly, you will pass by Ljabru bridge, emblem of the Søndre Nordstrand city district. Dating from around 1800 and made entirely of stone, this structure is still able to support the weight of the present road traffic. The confluence of Ljanselva and Gjersrudbekken takes place just behind the bridge. Ljanselva continues flowing to the left drawing some meanders among the trees before meeting Prinsdalsbekken, another of its affluents, under the railway. This part, called Slora, was before a meadow used for harvesting hay.
Ljabru hovedgård is located on the other side of Ljabruveien. Formerly called Lille Ljan, it was once one of the four farms at Ljan. Nowadays, it has been reconverted to a kindergarten/school. Just after the bus stop you will pass by some picturesque buildings. The Swiss style wooden building was the general merchant store around in the '50s, whereas the masonry building was a smithy until the '60s. Today, they host a restaurant, a photography studio, and a pet shop.
Following Ljabruveien, after passing by Kronveien bus stop, you will find a wonderful view over Liadalen. Liadalen is the valley carved by the Ljanselva river on its way to the fjord. On the skirts of the Sloreåsen hill you will see a slalom skiing trail, managed by the Ljan Alpine Skiing Club.
The road will start to descend after the intersection with Herregårdsveien. As you walk down the street, you will gain a view over the fjord, the islands, the Nesodden peninsula, and the hills behind. You will shortly arrive to Ljan station, declared a cultural heritage site of the city of Oslo. Hopefully, you will be just in time to take the next train.
