Itinerary description

We did this the reverse way to the route we got from Wikiloc (Thanks! Fellow hiker!) First we visited the Torrijos Winery Eco-museum, where we were shown how they pressed the grapes and the olives. They have tools and implements dating back to 1843 and far beyond. The presentation was given in English for our group. It is well worth paying a visit to this Museum before starting the walk. Leaving the Museum we walked up a steep climb along a cement/stone path to the ancient threshing area and from there to the stone Pigeon house. Then we walked along mountain roads, fire breaks and easy paths, none of them presented any difficulty. There are fruit laden arbutus shrubs , or the strawberry tree, all along the route, and many other types of pines and other trees. Many century's ago, following the incorporation of Malaga in the Kingdom of Castille, the de-forestation of the zone commenced in order to cultivate the grape, the olive and the almond. The destruction of the original forest was the principal cause of the numerous major floods in the capital city Malaga at the beginning of the last century. To stop this flooding, it was decided to reforest the area, beginning in the 1930's. As we reached the Porcopan we lost the route (from Error 1 to Ruina) and had to scramble for about 200m through a difficult dangerous part of the mountainside. This can be avoided by continuing from Error 1 then taking a not very obvious route to the right until you arrive at Error 2 where there is another path to the right which brings you to the ruins. The rest of the route is through a forest path until you arrive at the wooden bridge, where we join another path leading us to the Recreation Area of Torrijos where there are picnic tables and camping areas. From there you climb a cement and stone path or stairs back to the Winery of Torrijos from where we started. This is a nice, tranquil route, which presents little difficulty. We enjoyed it very much. Today´s guide was Miguel Angel Robles.
