Itinerary description

Mukaiyama Ryokuchi Park is one of the Greens of Toyohashi larger than 10 hectares in area.
This park consists of three parts.
Area 1: The area around O-ike Pond
Area 2: Traffic Park (formerly a zoo)
Area 3: Plum Garden and Cherry Orchard
Total park area is 17.86 hectares. (A bit less than one third of Shinjuku Gyoen Park)
These three areas are connected but poorly directed to get to one area to another.
Adjoining the Area 3 is the huge cemetery park.
The trail starts from the plaza with reduced-scale famous world monuments such as the Great Pyramid and Sphinx of Egypt, Moai statues of the Easter Islands, the Great Wall of China, a Triumphal Arch, Haniwa clay statues and Noah's Ark that looks more like an ancient Japanese boat. Then walk from north to south along the pond then crossed the street and enter a traffic park, formally a zoo. Even if you are not with children you can enjoy the magnificent building of Jidokotsukan, one of the iconic architectural buildings in Toyohashi. Area 3 with plum garden and cherry orchard is located west of traffic park but you need to cross street to get there. Cherry Orchard is larger than I expected and you can enjoy this area alone.

Local people call this dike pond officially named as Mukaiyama-O-ike simply O-ike. Now a part of green park, this is a nice place for walking for Toyohashi residents.
