It is the oldest bridge in the city that replaced the previous bridge of Judita, destroyed by the floods of 1342. The bridge originally was called Pedrosa or Praguense and from 1870 dedicated to the emperor Carlos IV, by whom was founded in 1357 and completed in 1402. The bridge was made of sandstone blocks and on the banks of the river equipped with watchtowers.
