Itinerary description
A well-accessible and fun hike for families. Villamayor is located in the pretty and quiet district of Piloña, where you can also visit other interesting places such as Infiesto and Espinareu, a village full of traditional granaries. The route starts opposite the church 'Santa Maria de Villmayor' where there's enough parking. From there, you follow a paved road along the 'Ría de la Cueva or Rio Pequeño'. It´s very well accessible and slightly ascending with the murmuring sound of the river in the background. If you go with kids, they can easily walk themselves or even take their bike since most of the path is paved. A nice detail are the two wooden bridges crossing the path, which are useful when the water level is high and the normal road flooded as a result. Just before reaching the waterfall, there´s a recreative area also called Chorrón with a small playground and some picnic tables. The waterfall is located in a pretty place surrounded by green trees and bushes. A nice hike in winter and spring, since this is the best time to enjoy the waterfall!
