Itinerary description
Starting from Merri Creek near Esplanade Clifton Hill, walk towards Heidelberg road, turn right and cross over bridge and connect to T.H Reserve Westfield Exten Track follow up to Yarra Bend Road cross crossing and connect to Main Yarra Trail towards Fairfield Boathouse.
Cross the Pipe Bridge and turn right onto an off trail that follows the Yarra River. Beautiful scenic walk that goes through the Flying Fox Conservatory.
Such a special place where Melbournes Grey headed Flying Fox Colony live. Continue trail till you reach Bells Picnic Ground, toliets are located here if needed.
Continue trail along the Yarra river till you reach a gate beyond this point there is just a little section of rock scrambling along the river and a set of stairs that takes you to river Retreat st, turn right and follow down till you connect back on the river trail.
Continue till you reach Kane’s Bridge and Studley Park boathouse and Picnic Ground. Grab a coffee and enjoy the views.
Follow trail up to Yarra Bend Boulevard and up towards Galatea Point and Monument of Cairns above Dights falls. This track leads down under Studley Park Boulevard Bridge, continue following river till you reach Andrews Researve Bridge. Turn left after bridge which connects back onto Main Yarra Trail. You will pass Abbotsford Convert on the left and go through the Collingwood Children’s Farm, back towards Dights Falls then back into Merri Creek Trail.

Cairn’s Above Dights Falls
This cairn was erected conjointly by the Kew, Collingwood and Heidelberg City Councils as a memorial to Charles Grimes, surveyor-general of New South Whales and party, th first white men to discover the River, Yarra, teaching the Yarra falls on 8th February 1803. Also to mark the crossing of the river near with Cattle by first over landers, John Gardiner, Joseph Haddin, and John Hepburn in December 1836.
