Itinerary description

This trail links the historic town of Blessington with the Palladian mansion Russhorou House.

The Greenway has been designed and created by the local community through the work of Blessington and District Forum (Trails) Ltd.

It was part funded through County Wicklow Partnership by the Rural Development Programme Ireland 2007-2013 and the European Union. ESB owns the land surrounding the Reservoir/

Blessington Lakes and has made it available for the Greenway development.

Wicklow County Council supported the project in a number of ways.

It starts at Blessington and leads south through the forest and 7 woodsind taking in some spectacular scenery adjacent to the shoreline of Pollaphuca Reservoir-more commonly referred to as Blessington Lakes.

The Greenway commences at Avon Ri Activity centre at the southern end of the town and weaves its way along the lake shores, crosses an ancient medieval Ringfort, uses the footpath along part of the N81 before turning back Into the forest Burgage Moyle Lane. then crosses the Valleymount Road (758) and makes its way to Russellstown Bay adjacent to Russborough House.
